Group Head of Health and Safety
About the Role
The Group Head of Health and Safety is a senior executive responsible for leading and shaping the health, safety, and wellbeing strategy across an organisation’s operations. This role ensures workplace health and safety is embedded at every level, from operational teams to executive leadership, while aligning HSE strategy with business objectives. The Group Head drives cultural change, compliance, and operational excellence, and is accountable for mitigating risks, improving safety performance, and protecting both employees and corporate reputation.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement a group-wide health and safety strategy aligned with organisational goals
- Lead the organisation’s safety culture transformation, influencing employees and executives alike
- Oversee compliance with Australian WHS legislation and HSE standards
- Advise executive leadership and boards on safety risks, mitigation strategies, and governance
- Lead and mentor senior HSE managers and teams across multiple sites
- Monitor and report on key safety metrics, incident investigations, and performance trends
- Conduct risk assessments and ensure robust incident prevention programs
- Drive continuous improvement through audits, benchmarking, and adoption of best practices
Key Requirements
- Extensive experience in senior HSE leadership roles within Australian industries
- Proven track record in multi-site operational leadership and safety management
- In-depth knowledge of Work Health and Safety (WHS) legislation and HSE regulations
- Formal HSE qualifications such as NEBOSH, Cert IV in Work Health and Safety, Grad Dip in Safety, or equivalent
- Experience in risk management, governance, and safety systems implementation
- Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills, including influencing boards and executive teams
- Demonstrated ability to drive safety culture change across complex organisations
