As part of this evolution, an exciting opportunity has been created for an experienced HSE leader to establish and lead a newly formed HSE technical team, providing independent governance, assurance and strategic oversight across the organisation's most material health, safety and environmental risks.
The Role
Reporting to the Head of HSE & Risk, the Manager HSE will lead the organisation's HSE technical function — spanning governance, assurance, systems, reporting and continuous improvement. This is a second-line, enterprise-wide role providing independent oversight and constructive challenge to ensure critical risks are understood, controls are effective, and a strong, generative safety culture is embedded across the business.
This is a strategic, high-influence role — it is less focused on day-to-day operational site safety, and far more focused on governance, assurance, performance reporting and organisational risk management at an enterprise level, including regular engagement with Executive and Board stakeholders.
Key areas of focus include:
- HSE governance, assurance and risk management
- HSE management systems and continuous improvement
- Executive and Board reporting and insights
- Business continuity, incident and crisis management
- Building and leading a high-performing new HSE team
- Influencing senior stakeholders and driving organisational change
You are an experienced HSE leader with a strong track record in a complex, high-risk and highly regulated environment, such as utilities, energy, electricity, mining, major infrastructure projects or heavy industry.
You bring:
- Strong expertise across HSE governance, assurance, systems and risk management
- Demonstrated experience providing independent oversight, assurance and constructive challenge to senior line leaders
- Proven ability to interpret complex data and risk information into high-quality Executive and Board-level reporting
- Experience leading and continuously improving accredited HSE management systems (e.g. AS4801, ISO45001, ISO14001)
- A track record of building and leading high-performing teams through periods of change
- Strong stakeholder engagement, influencing and change leadership capability
- 10+ years' experience in an HSE leadership capacity (desirable); postgraduate management or business qualifications (desirable); electricity industry background an advantage
- Salary package of approximately $250,000 inclusive of superannuation
- Flexible work arrangements
- On-site parking provided for management-level employees
- A rare opportunity to build and shape a brand-new HSE team from the ground up
- The chance to play a genuinely strategic, high-impact role within an organisation critical to the community it serves
