They are seeking a proactive Health & Safety Advisor to support operational teams, uplift safety capability, and drive best-practice risk management across diverse capital works, facilities, and maintenance environments.
The Opportunity The Health & Safety Advisor will provide specialist support across operational directorates, ensuring compliance with WHS legislation and organisational safety standards. This role plays a key part in developing, maintaining and promoting a positive and engaged safety culture across the business.
You will support operational leaders, contractors and internal stakeholders to minimise risk, prevent injuries, and enhance safety performance across construction, maintenance and infrastructure functions.
This position reports to the Senior Safety Manager and has no direct reports.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the Senior Safety Manager in delivering safety objectives aligned to the organisation’s Safety Plan.
- Partner with operational, construction and maintenance teams to ensure safety obligations are met across all project phases.
- Manage incident reporting, corrective actions and close-out within agreed timeframes using internal systems.
- Coordinate incident investigations in collaboration with managers, HSRs, safety committees and contractors.
- Identify incident trends and implement strategies to reduce recurrence.
- Lead the rollout of safety programs and initiatives across operational teams.
- Conduct audits and regular inspections of contractors, infrastructure and worksites.
- Review contractor safety documentation to ensure compliance with organisational standards.
- Deliver safety inductions, training sessions and presentations to staff and contractors.
- Provide expert safety advice to internal stakeholders on projects, events and operational activities.
- Maintain safety records, registers and documentation in accordance with organisational requirements.
- Drive continuous improvement and actively contribute to the organisation’s health and safety culture.
- Relevant tertiary qualification in Work Health & Safety or equivalent experience.
- Demonstrated experience as a safety professional within construction, infrastructure or facilities management.
- Experience conducting site audits, inspections and managing corrective actions.
- Strong background in reviewing and developing SWMS, risk assessments and contractor documentation.
- Practical experience using permit-to-work systems and overseeing contractor compliance.
- Ability to identify risks associated with hazardous plant, tools and construction methods.
- Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to influence safe behaviours.
- Thorough knowledge of WHS legislation, Codes of Practice and relevant Australian Standards.
- Ability to work autonomously and collaboratively within a team environment.
- Proven capability to develop and implement safety initiatives and risk reduction strategies.
- Commitment to ongoing development in health, safety and wellbeing.
