Summary – Head of HSE

Our client is a world class mining company with a reputation for high standards, quality output and catering for their employees.

They are certainly classed as a top tier operation and great company to work for.

Moving forward they have an exciting growth plan being implemented, this hire will be key to rolling out that initiative.
  
As a result of this, they are now seeking and strong performing HSE Leader to have oversight of all Health, Safety, Training, Community Relations and Emergency Response  on site.  

You will have a number of direct reports executing each function, you shall report to the Site GM with dotted line to the Group VP HSE.
  
Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and develop a multidisciplinary Sustainability team across Safety, Environment, Training, Community Relations and Emergency Response.
  • Environment will be an aspect and facet of the role however a less skew for the initial stages.
  • The role is responsible for developing, implementing and continuously improving HSE and sustainability systems that meet legislative requirements and support safe, responsible and socially aligned operations.   
  • A key focus is maintaining strong relationships with regulators, community stakeholders and internal leaders to uphold the organisation’s social licence to operate.
  • Drive a strong safety and environmental culture through leadership, coaching and succession planning.
  • Oversee HSE and Training Management Systems to ensure statutory and operational compliance.
  • Develop and deliver site strategies, plans and budgets across safety, health, environment and social responsibility.
  • Build and maintain relationships with regulators, community leaders and key stakeholders.
  • Manage risk, incident investigations, injury management and rehabilitation processes.
  • Provide expert advice to the General Manager and contribute to long‑term strategic planning.
  
Qualification and Suitability
  • You are an experienced senior HSE leader with a strong strategic and people management background in Health, Safety and Environmental Management within a medium to large organisation.
  •   Previous experience of working for a long stint in a rural location 
  • Possible DIDO from nearest towns, two or three options which include good schools and community dwellings 
  • Roster is ideally 5 and 2 or near to. 
  • FIFO is unlikely however could be arranged for a top candidate however this will need to be a proven as a long term formula
  • You hold a relevant tertiary qualification or equivalent experience and have an understanding of not just open cut - but also Australian underground mining or tunnelling HSE operation process and legislation.
  •  Must have eligibility to work to work full time in Australia with either Permanent Residency or Citizenship. Relocation back to Australia is fully supported 
  • You demonstrate strong commercial acumen, strategic thinking and the ability to lead and inspire high‑performing teams. Your leadership style is values‑driven, collaborative and focused on continuous improvement and positive cultural change.
