The Role
The Safety Centre of Expertise (CoE) Lead will be accountable for setting the strategic direction, governance, and operational performance of the Safety CoE. This leadership role ensures the effective development, implementation, and continuous improvement of safety frameworks, policies, and practices across the organisation, embedding safety as a core business priority.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide strategic leadership and oversight of safety programs, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, industry standards, and internal policies.
- Champion agile practices and drive performance within agile CoE teams.
- Equip leaders to understand and effectively manage HSWE risks, obligations, and compliance requirements within their areas of responsibility.
- Take accountability for delivery of CoE outcomes in alignment with business objectives.
- Collaborate with the SSE Leadership team to set and execute the strategic direction of the Safety CoE.
- Shape and refine CoE strategy, fostering innovation and continuous improvement.
- Lead and mentor a team of safety specialists, fostering capability development in an agile environment.
- Apply deep subject-matter expertise and strong business acumen to deliver high-impact outcomes.
- Drive cross-functional collaboration to achieve CoE priorities and embed best-practice safety management across all functions.
You will be a seasoned safety leader with a proven track record of driving strategic safety initiatives within complex organisations. With in-depth knowledge of safety legislation, standards, and industry best practice, you will bring strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify risks and implement effective solutions.
You will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, enabling you to influence, engage, and build trust with stakeholders at all levels. Highly adaptable and collaborative, you can lead cross-functional teams in dynamic environments, drive cultural and organisational change, and deliver measurable outcomes that enhance safety performance and operational excellence.
