THE COMPANY

This is one of Australia's largest vertically integrated construction materials businesses, with operations spanning quarrying, cement, concrete, asphalt and recycling nationwide. It's the kind of organisation where the environmental function isn't an afterthought bolted onto operations, it sits inside a dedicated Property, Planning and Environment structure with real investment behind it. If you want to work somewhere your expertise actually shapes how a business runs day to day, not just ticks a compliance box, this is that kind of environment.

THE ROLE

This is an Environment Business Partner position, reporting into a Senior Environment Business Partner. It's a hands on specialist role rather than a people leadership one, there are no direct reports here, which means your time and expertise stay focused on the work itself rather than being pulled into managing a team.

The role exists to embed proactive, risk based environmental management across a genuinely broad operational footprint. You'll be working directly with site managers and operational leaders on the ground, not sitting removed from the action behind a desk. Based in Port Melbourne, the role covers operations across Victoria and Tasmania, giving you real breadth and variety in the sites and challenges you're working across week to week.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Own environmental permit verifications and impacts register reviews across a multi site portfolio, keeping everything current and defensible
  • Build real relationships with regulator contacts at both officer and senior level, not just reactive engagement when something goes wrong
  • Lead high potential incident investigations and validate action closeout, giving you genuine authority in how incidents are handled
  • Coach and upskill operational teams so environmental thinking becomes part of how sites operate, not something imposed from outside
  • Contribute to strategy and improvement plans for the region, with visibility into national direction and product line action plans
  • Stay connected to industry associations and circular economy thinking, keeping your expertise current and your network active
THE ESSENTIALS
  • Minimum 5 years environmental experience gained in heavy industry or with a regulator
  • Tertiary qualification in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Sustainability or related field
  • Solid working knowledge of environmental regulations and EPA licensing requirements
  • Comfortable holding your own in front of regional and operational management teams
  • A full driver's licence and genuine willingness to be on site regularly, this role covers real ground
THE BENEFITS
  • 14 weeks paid parental leave
  • Access to an Employee Assistance Program for you and your family, covering mental health and wellbeing support
  • Novated leasing options to package a vehicle through your pay
  • Employee discounts across everyday costs including groceries, energy, health and fitness, and retail
  • Genuine autonomy and trust to run your patch, not micromanagement
  • A realistic working structure, two days in the Port Melbourne office, two days on site, one day working from home
