The Role
We are seeking an experienced Emergency Management Officer to support the organisation’s emergency preparedness, response and recovery capability. This role will have a strong focus on evacuation planning, emergency response procedures, exercising and employee training, ensuring people are well prepared to respond effectively to a range of emergency scenarios.
Working closely with operational teams and key stakeholders, you will help build a strong emergency management culture by developing practical plans, delivering engaging training and testing organisational readiness through exercises and simulations.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, review and maintain emergency management and evacuation plans across the organisation.
- Conduct site assessments and identify opportunities to strengthen emergency preparedness and evacuation capability.
- Develop and deliver emergency management, evacuation and emergency response training to employees, including Wardens and key emergency response personnel.
- Develop and facilitate emergency exercises, drills and simulations to test organisational readiness and identify areas for improvement.
- Provide guidance and support to employees and leaders regarding emergency response procedures, evacuation requirements and emergency roles and responsibilities.
- Support the development and maintenance of Business Continuity and Emergency Management programs.
- Review emergency management documentation, procedures and processes to ensure they remain current, practical and fit for purpose.
- Assess emergency management capability and provide reports and recommendations to address identified gaps.
- Coordinate emergency response activities and provide support during incidents and exercises where required.
- Work collaboratively with stakeholders to promote a positive emergency preparedness and safety culture.
- Maintain awareness of relevant legislation, standards and contemporary emergency management practices.
- Relevant experience in emergency management, emergency planning, business continuity, risk management or a related field.
- Demonstrated experience developing and reviewing evacuation and emergency response plans.
- Proven experience delivering emergency management and evacuation training to employees and/or emergency response teams.
- Experience developing and facilitating emergency exercises, drills and simulations.
- Strong understanding of emergency management principles, risk assessment and organisational preparedness.
- Excellent stakeholder engagement and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively across all levels of an organisation.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to develop clear plans, procedures, reports and training materials.
- Ability to identify gaps in emergency preparedness and develop practical, achievable recommendations.
- Relevant tertiary qualifications in Emergency Management, Risk Management, Business Continuity, Occupational Health & Safety or a related discipline will be highly regarded.
