Our client is one of Australia's most established building materials manufacturers, producing cement, concrete, aggregate, and masonry products that underpin construction and infrastructure across the country. Part of one of the world's largest building materials groups with operations across more than 28 countries, the business is in an active period of integration and growth with significant investment going into its health and safety function and the people within it.

THE ROLE

The Business Partner, Health and Safety is a Senior Individual Contributor within the National Health and Safety Team, reporting to the state Health and Safety Manager. The role is primarily embedded across the core manufacturing and production operations, with regular reach into additional sites across the state portfolio. There are no direct reports.

This is a genuinely operational role. You will spend significant time on site working alongside production teams, operational leaders, and frontline workers to build capability, identify risk, and drive the H&S strategy into the operation. The real challenge is influence: the business has a long history and operational leaders with strong, established ways of working. Earning credibility with those stakeholders and shifting how they think about safety is central to what this role needs to achieve. The business is also currently transitioning from Tier 2 to Tier 1 supplier status within its parent group, which means the safety function has real opportunity to shape standards at a pivotal moment. Regular interstate trave is a requirement.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Perform regular planned site visits to deliver training, audits, and assurance activities.
  • Provide subject matter expertise to identify and control critical risks.
  • Train and coach operational leaders in H&S management systems, investigations, and risk management.
  • Monitor compliance against WHS legislation and company requirements and implement systems to demonstrate due diligence.
  • Implement and drive H&S campaigns and strategic initiatives aligned with the H&S strategy.
  • Advise on WHS legislation, regulations, codes of practice, and standards, including changes impacting operations.
  • Engage, coordinate, and support HSRs and facilitate HSE committee meetings.
  • Facilitate incident analysis, learning, and continuous improvement to reduce risk.
THE ESSENTIALS
  • Minimum Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety or a related discipline.
  • Formal qualification in incident investigation or auditing.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in a heavy industry, infrastructure, or construction environment.
  • Demonstrated experience conducting investigations and auditing against legislative or company requirements.
  • Proven ability to coach operational leaders and engage effectively at the frontline.
  • Experience in contractor management and strategies to improve collaboration with contracting partners.
THE BENEFITS
  • A team genuinely committed to contemporary safety practice, working with Learning Teams and HOP thinking alongside ICAM.
  • Clear career pathways within the broader group, including progression toward group and national leadership roles.
  • Collaborative team structure including fellow Business Partners, an Advisor, and a Graduate.
  • Exposure to a diverse range of heavy industrial operations and product lines across a significant national portfolio.
  • An opportunity to shape safety culture at an organisation undergoing meaningful and lasting change.
